Frequently Asked Questions & Answers: Lunaqua 10 LED & Halogen Lighting.
Q. Which is better - LED or Halogen Lighting?
This really depends on what is being lit, and in what surroundings. Halogen lighting produces a warm yellow/white glow which is well suited to illumination of traditional water features, ponds and fountain displays. LED lighting produces a whiter light which is well suited to contemporary garden lighting, modern water features and rills. LED lighting also consumes far less energy which in important consideration, particularly when larger quantities of lights are used (lakes, commercial installations etc). The final selection may also depend on any existing lighting within the pond, lake, garden or water feature.
Q. I prefer the new Oase Lunaqua 10 LED Lighting System - which items do I need for my installation?
Firstly, decide on the quantity of lights required for the application. The Lunaqua 10 LED Spotlights only consume 10W each, so up to 4 lights can be added to each 150W submersible transformer.
Now select the correct quantity of transformers required (i.e. 1-4 spotlights will require 1 transformer).
Next, select the cable lengths required between each spotlight to the tranformer (i.e. 4 lights will require 4 connection cables).
Finally, decide on any accessories required (coloured lenses or mounting bases). Remember that any accessories can be purchased at a later date, if preferred.
Q. Can I mix and match LED Spotlights with Halogen Spotlights on the same Transformer?
Yes you can. As long at the total spotlight wattage does not exceed the Transformer's 150W maximum load. For example: 4 Spotlights required in total; 2 x Lunaqua 10 Halogen Spot lights both fitted with 50W halogen bulbs + 2 x 10W Lunaqua 10 LED spotlights. 50W+50W+10W+10W=120W.
Q. How do I know how many lights I need and what wattage halogen bulbs do I select?
Lighting is very subjective and the quantity and power of the illumination is partially down to personal taste. Other factors to consider are pond or lake water quality (if using a pond filtration system or lake aerator, it is likely to be reasonable and consistant water quality), the mounting depth of the lights and the size/shape of the pond, lake or water feature. If you need any guidance, please feel free to email or call us on 02392 373735 for expert advice.
Q. Can the Lunaqua 10 lights be used outside of water or do they have to be submersed?
Both the LED and Halogen spotlights can be used out of water, except where a 75W bulb is fitted (this requires submersion due to the heat generated). Lunaqua 10 LED and Halogen Spotlights are ideal for illuminating treelines, planting borders and buildings in addition to their underwater capabilities.
Q. I already own a Pondjet Floating Fountain / Air Flo LM Lake Aerator with 50W Halogen spotlights. Can we replace the existing Halogen Lights with the new Lunaqua LED spotlight versions?
Yes you can. The new Lunaqua 10 LED lights are a direct retrofit for the Lunaqua 10 spotlights (with the use of the supplied gasket).
Q. Do you sell Lunaqua 10 connection cables longer than 7.5 metres?
No. It is possible to span a distance of 15m (i.e. 2 x 7.5m connection cables in opposite directions) and the Submersible Lunaqua 10 Transformer is supplied with 10m of 240V cable. This is usually enough for most lighting projects but if greater spans are required (for lakes or larger commercial fountains for example) then we suggest using additional Lunaqua Transformers & Spotlights in more localised areas.
Q. Can the Lunaqua 10 Connection Cables be cut and extended?
No. These cables are low voltage so extending these will result in a voltage drop and likely malfunction. In addition, the Lunaqua 10 Connection Cables are supplied with special terminals which allow these to be submersed up to 4m deep. It is possible to extend the Lunaqua 10 Transformer cable (The transformer is supplied with 10m of 240V cable) by using our Butyl wrapped Garden Cable and either submersible or weatherproof Cable Connectors. As with any electrical installation, please consult a qualified electrican if in any doubt.
Q. What is the best way of mounting the Lunaqua 10 lights?
If using the Lunaqua Lights on soft ground, the supplied ground spke can be used. If the lights require wall mounting, then the optional Mounting Base will provide a secure means of mounting whilst allowing the light to be pivoted/rotated independantly. For underwater use, the supplied spike can be cemented into a vessel (a plant pot for example) to act as ballast and offer a stable platform. Alternatively, the optional Mounting Base can be fixed to a small concrete slab for added stability at greater depths (the spotlights, transformer and cables can be submersed up to 4m deep).
Q. Can you change the colour of the illumination?
Yes. Both the Lunaqua 10 LED and Lunaqua 10 Halogen spotlights can be fitted with the optional coloured lenses. Please view our Lunaqua 10 Lighting Video for details on how to fit these high quality coloured lenses.
Q. These lights may be too big for my garden / pond / water feature. Do you have anything smaller?
Yes. Please take a look at our Lunaqua 3 Halogen Spotlights and also our range of smaller LED lights for underwater, garden or indoor use.
Q. Can you provide more powerful illumination than the Lunaqua 10 lights?
Yes. Please view our Profilux 100 underwater lighting. The Profilux 100 Spotlight is constructed from high grade stainless steel and provides 100W of Halogen illumination. Due to cooling requirements, the Profilux 100 Spot Light is only suitable for underwater use. We also provide the Profilux light in a 10W Cool White LED version which can be used submersed or dry installed. The Profilux 100 LED is ideal for commercial fountain illumination or public installations where the visual appearance of the spotlight may be important. Please enquire for more details and pricing for the Oase Profilux LED light.
