How do you install a floating fountain?
Floating fountains are an excellent choice in larger ponds and lakes to provide stunning water display and these also help to oxygenate and circulate the water. Installation is generally far simpler to perform versus a ‘static’ mounted submersible pump, particularly in deep water. Static pumps would require a solid plinth to be built to site the pump underwater which is almost impossible to achieve without draining the water body.
Floating Fountain Installation.
- It’s often easier and more convenient to assemble the floating fountain on the bank of the pond or lake. This is usually a simple matter of bolting the main motor to the float.
- If the power cable requires lengthening, it is a good idea to do this before placing the fountain in the lake. Ensure an IP68 rated, permanently submersible cable connector is used.
- Once assembled, float the assembled fountain and either wade it into position or use a small boat if water depth exceeds chest height.
- Connect the float to 2 or 3 polypropylene ropes and either anchor these to opposite banks or anchor to the lake floor using suitable weights such as concrete blocks. The purpose of the anchoring is to prevent the fountain from floating away and also to prevent it spinning on its own axis when running. Allow a little slack in the anchoring to account for any water depth changes.
- Complete the electrical connections (Always consult a qualified electrician).
- Put power to the fountain and monitor to ensure it remains at the desired location.
Once installed, your fountain should give many years of trouble free operation and enjoyment but always follow periodic maintenance advice from the specific manufacturer’s instruction manual.
