Cascading water blades come in a variety of widths, usually ranging from 30cm up to 1.5 metres wide but much larger bespoke blades can also be created. However, it’s important to note that the higher the blade is mounted, the more unstable the cascading water sheet will become as it falls down in free-flight.
Regardless of the width of the cascade, the water sheet thickness tends to be around 5-10mm and mother nature will be doing her best to pull the falling sheet apart. So, if the blade is mounted too high above the pool, pond or reservoir water surface, the sheet will begin to break up and look far less attractive. The sheet is also susceptible to wind so this also becomes more of an issue if the blade is too high up.
Here is our suggested mounting height guide for the water blade (from the water surface), based on the most common cascade widths:
If you plan to elevate the blade higher than the suggested heights above, please be aware that the sheet may break up considerably as it falls. Also ensure you have ample catchment in the pool beneath to capture splash and to account for any wind instability.
