Which pumps are best for pond filters? - FAQ

Which pumps are best for pond filters?

Pond filters are designed to trap fish waste and general debris, so it’s important to use the right style of pump to pass this detritus to the filter.  Solids-handling pumps feature large holes in the outer casing and utilise an open impeller design, allowing the pond waste to pass through to the filter.  It’s also worth noting that the filter system should be left running 24/7, it’s also important to select the most energy efficient equipment for the task.

A common mistake is to use a fountain or water feature pump which usually have very small holes in the outer casing, to prevent debris from blocking the fountain nozzle or feature.  This style of pump will block quickly and, as the muck cannot be passed, you are left with a clean filter and a dirty pond!

OASE have developed the AquaMax Eco Premium pumps specifically for supplying water to a pond filter and are the most energy efficient on the current marketplace.  If budget is a major constraint, the AquaMax Eco Classic and the PondoMax range of pumps are worthy of note.
